Search without AI Overviews

What is this?

Search engines now show AI-generated summaries at the top of results. These "AI Overviews" can be inaccurate and push real results down.

Unslop Search is a search launcher: it builds a URL for the engine you pick and opens it. It does not proxy, rerank, or filter the results the engine returns.

For Google, the default is udm=14, Google's Web filter, which shows text links without AI Overviews. An experimental -ai query exclusion is also available. Google can change how these behave at any time. Other engines use their own parameters, such as Brave's summary=0, which suppresses the AI summary only.

Set as default search engine

Chrome

Visit this site, then type anything in the search box and search once
Go to Settings → Search engine
Click Manage search engines and site search
Find "Unslop Search" under Inactive shortcuts
Click Activate, then click the three dots → Make default

Firefox

Visit this site
Right-click the address bar and select Add "Unslop Search"
Go to Settings → Search
Under "Default Search Engine", select "Unslop Search"

Visit this site and perform a search
Go to Settings → Privacy, search, and services
Scroll down and click Address bar and search

Safari doesn't support custom search engines natively. Use our bookmarklet or install our browser extension instead.

Why a launcher instead of a setting

Google's own help page states that AI Overviews are a core Google Search feature, like knowledge panels. Features cannot be turned off. The same page describes the Web filter as one that displays only text-based links without features like AI Overviews (Google Search Help). So there is no account switch to flip — the reliable route is to ask for the Web filter on every search. That is a URL parameter, udm=14, and putting it on every search by hand is the friction this page removes.

Unslop Search stores nothing server-side and never sees your query: the search form navigates your browser straight to the engine you picked. The engine choice lives in your browser's localStorage, not in an account.
